I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.

I totally agree with this principle, but I just had to tell a funny story from "the other side." In Tibet last week, we met a sweet young family with a new baby girl. I asked the Dad if they wanted to have any more children. (Since they are considered minority, they aren't subject to the one child rule.) Anyway, in all seriousness he said, "Not in this lifetime!" (And whereas a non-Buddhist might say that as an emphatic no, he was quite serious... simply saying that in future lifetimes he would, but that he didn't want another child in this lifetime.)
That worldview does have interesting consequences when it comes to fighting injustice... it leads to some apathy, I think.
Sorry - this was a totally random comment, but now that I've written, I must hit post. :)
Ooohh... I love it... goes along with my blog post today... I'm gonna steal it!!! LOL!! Want me to quote your blog as my source!?
The quote is yours for the taking Jennifer ... I have no rights to it.

This photo is of Pierre and his Mother. He was in the process of getting fitted for a new leg last fall when he died of an unknown cause. We were glad to have met him and enjoyed the opportunity to get to know him.
