This morning I answered the cell phone to a crying, upset, close to hysterical girl on the other end. She'd just gotten into her first-ever car accident and she was very scared. In that flash of a second when I was waiting for my child to tell me she was not badly hurt my heart rate rocketed and fear gripped every muscle in my body. She has a few minor cuts. She is sore. She's a little shaken up. But thank-you-God she is just fine.
An earthquake in my not so distant memory taught me that life is so very fleeting, precious, fragile, and totally unpredictable ... I was reminded of this again today.
Go hug your kid. (Or anyone else you love that needs to know it.)

I just got the same phone call from my sister today and the time from answering hello to when she could talk to me without crying seemed like FOREVER. She had her 2 year old in the car also and knew it was only by the grace of God that they weren't both killed. They are both fine. Praise God and hug your entire family.
I'm so thankful that Paige is ok.
Britt :) But either way - they are both currently okay :)
I've had those phone calls before ...
Once, I got the phone call at 1:00 am ... crying hysterical daughter living in another state ... and the phone went dead before she could tell me what happened. That was about the most terrifying 30 minutes of my life, until I heard from her again. Oh my!
So glad that Britt is okay. (I knew it was Britt. Didn't think Paige was driving in Haiti.)
Hugging my kids today, along with you!
Laurel :)
My daughter can get her permit in the not-so-distant future. I'm so scared for her! I do hug her - and often. :)
I have been following your blog and praying for you and for the work that you have been involved with in Haiti.
Last fall, we got that kind of phone call. It was our 15 year old daughter on the other end hysterically telling us that our 17 year old son had been hit by a van and was pinned under. God was so good though. not only did he survive, but he had just a broken shoulder blade along with many cuts, bruises and burns. We are so thankful. We know that God was looking after him. We daily pray protection over our children as they going about their days.
I vividly remember calling my mom from an emergency room. I was in a very serious accident 20 years ago while 3 hours away at college; there were 5 of us in the Jeep , we rolled and the young guy drivng died on the scene. I insisted they let me call my mom because I knew if she didn't talk to me she would flip out and imagine the worst. They wheeled me on a stretcher to a wall pay phone and I made the call. Yes it was a
very small hospital in a rural area. At the time I didn't understand why parents my flipped out. They came the next day to see me and do what parents do. Now that I'm the mom of 3 kids (2 teens) I understand why they flipped out. I'm glad your Britt is well and I do hug my kiddos daily!
I hope she feels better soon.
Thanking God for Britt's protection.
Praise God Britt is okay! I got a call once from my daughter's cell phone but it was her boyfriend's voice - I just about fainted when he said "she is okay - but..." Rachel was in a 2 door Toyota Yaris and didn't see a full-size van (coming at 55 miles per hour) hiding behind a turning car and pulled out into an intersection and was hit by the van. Needless to say the car was totalled and Rachel was knocked unconscious and when she came to she couldn't even speak she was crying so much. It was a miracle she wasn't killed and only had a few scratches. Praise God.
Gonna hug my kids but please hug yours for me, too! Love you both.
Oh my goodness...I missed this post. My prayers are late, but I'll pray anyway.
