Question for Readers

The older people are telling us that the new colors are harder for them to read.  We made the font size bigger.  Maybe too big?   (We had the font white and heard white was bad, changed it to brown but now are hearing brown is bad.)

File your complains here. We'll try to fix it.

3:50 pm ** A few changes made.  If you cannot read it I think you need to visit your nearest eye-care professional.

(inner box is now lighter than outer box color. text is black. font is sort of old-person biggish. massage therapist will come rub your back and feet while you read -- rose petals will be dropped from heaven creating a beautiful aroma, sweet comforting music will serenade you. Relaxing candle-lit room should appear within minutes of logging on - bubble bath is running in the bathroom nearest you. You'll burn calories while you read, yet you won't sweat or feel fatigued. A beverage cart should be coming by to offer you a full array of your favorite choices very soon.)
Enjoy.

I liked the old style and format better, this seems to remedial. Font is way to big.

Love the message still.

I like the font size and I'm not having trouble reading the brown.

I like big font better - easier to read, and the color is fine either way.

Looks good to me...bigger is better even for us young people. After hours of working on a computer all day, it hurts my eyes to read small print.

i had a hard time reading whatever color was before this one. the first time you changed it. but the big font now it killing me. having to scroll every 4 lines makes me crazy. still wouldnt keep me from reading though!

Maybe a tutorial would help. Hold down the "control" button and scroll your mouse roller button forward. Ta-da! Instantly larger font!

It was hard to read and I'm not old :) I didn't want to say anything because I wanted to be nice. I do like the change you made. Its a lot easier and I think the font size is perfect!

I love the font you are using now. The colour is great too. The only one that is hard to read is the green and orange colour.

Hey your blog is so great. Thanks for writing!

I assume all of this is just a slow build-up to the day when your blog will actually enter my soul through my eyes and cleanse it. While you're working toward that, if it could give me a massage as I read, that would be swell.

I'm older?!?!? ha ha

The new colors are lovely, but difficult to read. The bigger font helps (of course ctrl+ accomplishes much the same thing). But Web Design 101 confirms that white on black is always the best choice for readability. Second best is a strong contrast. The left-hand column on your blog is better in that respect than the main content.

Thad - Thanks for being here man. Where would we be without you advice? Where!?!?!? Hard to think about.

Sending a massage therapist to College Station as we speak. I want people totally comfortable, relaxed, and happy.

As one of your "older" readers, I love the big font. I'm personally not a fan of the brown on brown, but in the grand scheme of all you guys have going on and to worry about, my vote would be to spend ZERO time on this issue. With all you are doing for the Kingdom, and raising those incredible young people, if you should find that you have any extra/spare time perhaps you should help John McH with his Whopper addiction. :-)
On a serious note, thank you both for sharing so much of your lives; the blog is a great inspiration to so many of us.
And don't forget to always leave the iPhone in the car to see what the kids were up to... :-)

It is much better now, but how about adding some color? Maybe a "pink" background? I love pink! Nonetheless, it is much better to read now. Thanks!

Hello. The larger font helps, but it would still help me to see a higher degree of contrast between the type and the background.

That means, lighten the background color (especially if you want to keep the brown, green, and blue text colors. I really like those colors, btw.)

Also, lettering at the top of the page ("Better to love God and die unknown . .. ") is hard to read against the photograph.

Dunno if I'm old at 53, but I did notice the readability problem right away.

Thanks for asking.

Best wishes.

I LOVE the new colors. I'm "getting old" and my eyes are definitely changing a lot lately. But ... I LOVE it, and have no problem reading the brown on brown.

I like the bigger font. I vote for some color too - greens and blues. I thought the original darker brown was very pretty but couldn't read a thing. :) Its hard to see anything these days - getting old. Love the blog. Love you guys.

Since you asked..... Bigger font is great.
Brown on brown not so much.

I had trouble with the new background color at the ripe old age of 37. But I'll get some coke-bottle glasses if I need to ... I love your blog, and it's something I look forward to every day.

Contrast is the big deal for almost anyone with visual impairment. Dark on light color contrast works for most of the VI guys that call themselves fun names for disabled, the opposite (white on black, for instance) will force me off of reading.

Brown!

For me, darken the letters and/or lighten the brown boxes the separate posts are in. Maybe the individual post boxes could be a lighter brown than the page background, instead of a darker brown???

I liked the older style/format as it was easier to read on smaller screens, ie phone etc. then the brown on brown. Have a great day! Pennie Moore

I love the "new & improved" color scheme but still wish you didn't have to spend time on this stuff. On the other hand, I CAN NOT wait for the beverage cart to come by, I really need a quad-latte!

I don't like that Taco Bell started shredding their cheese on a large grater instead of the little fancy shred version. It feels good to file my complaint. Thanks!

The weather here in NC has been really hot, and my kids are disobedient and have bad attitudes sometimes. Please let me know when you get this taken care of.

Wow, this is one amazing blog. So service oriented. Don't care about your colors, etc etc, just glad to read your thoughts and happenings.
But the other stuff if SUCH a nice touch! All other blogs will be such a disappointment now (including mine).

I like this much better than when you had the black background. I could never see the titles of each day's article unless I ran my mouse over them. The bigger the font the better, as far as I'm concerned. I usually enlarge them for the sake of my old eyes, anyway! Thanks! I love following your blog--I've learned so much!

Ha, HA! HA!!! You made me snicker . . .

And how you have it now is better than it was immediately prior to this. THANKS (from someone with really bad eyes that new glasses can't improve any more . . . praying for healing, or I may soon not be able to drive any more, and I'm awfully young--less than 40 . . . )

Think this is all funny. Made me smile tonight - thanks. Still waiting for the beverage cart to come by as I could really use a drink right now. Sigh. Love you guys, miss you terribly.

My complaint? My beautiful daughter called me "middle aged" yesterday. Can you fix that?

I love your sense of humor, you guys are the greatest. The lighter background and fogy-friendly font are perfect for me.

Now if you could throw in a laundery service and some light housekeeping (I'll send my address off-line) all my immediate needs will have been met. For now.

Your blog has opened up a world for me and challenged my Christian life. Thanks for writing it.

Wait something isn't right. Here I sit reading your blog like I do EVERY day before I start my work... I don't get it - no music, no rose petals, no bath... Maybe there is a button I need to click. Can someone tell me where it is? I need to burn a few calories too before the office picnic.

Thanks for all you do, for sharing your life and your work in Haiti. I read every day. It helps me stay connected to Haiti...

It looks lovely (although I'm obviously not a good person to ask since I always thought it looked fine). A free cleaning service would be nicer than a massage.
Thank you for carrying on posting amid your hectic life! I love reading your blog.

Last night on the phone with Troy he said, "Nice. I spend three hours writing a post about a day in Haiti and get five comments. You ask about the readability of the blog and 30 people chime in. What tha' heck?"

Didn't see what it looked like before, but it looks fine now! Big font is good.
I am, however, still waiting on the beverage cart to bring me a sweet iced tea (God's gift to the South, and the South's gift to the world). Thank you!

Wow it is all good. I appreciate your sense of humor and love to see the work you are doing in Haiti and fun kids that make the journey worthwhile. Thanks for the chuckles and smiles this post brought me.

Oh Tara... you're a hoot! Catching up here tonight. Can't stop giggling... still waiting for the beverage cart to appear.

I like the restful feeling of the new colors. But actually I usually read your blog through a feed reader (B & W), so it doesn't matter much to me.

Poor Troy. I REALLY enjoy his posts too. Tell him to keep up the writing, despite fewer comments. It's good!

((Hugs))

P.S. Come to think of it, I will ask one thing. I scroll fast past the potty talk. I assume you're blowing off steam?

I want Troy to know that I did comment on his wonderful Blog entry before this one! :) Does he know there are 41 here now? HA! Anyway, I did find it hard to read on the dark brown background but thought it was just because it was 'different'---Doesn't matter what color or size anything is...I'd be reading it anyway!! XXOO
