goodbye september
- Gwo Cheve hospital fund is at 79% due to another 3K in the mail ~ again, THANK YOU!!
- We get to hear Francis Chan (the guy clinging to the balance beam in a previous post) speak tonight at Crowder's Fantastical Church Music Conf. we are super pumped. Thank you for the tickets Skalbecks!
- Tomorrow we head to Austin for the Together for Adoption Conf. taking place Friday and Saturday ~ anxious to share and connect with friends there. Even more excited for the dinner with friends afterward on Saturday.
- Happy Birthday to Dad/Grandpa Porter - 60 years (not that) old.
- Sunday morning Troy is happy to get to co-lead worship under a bridge in Waco.
- Best of luck to Tara's little sister Tina as she blows up yet another marathon in the Twin Cities on Sunday. Kill it Tina!!!! We're cheering from Tejas.
- Lydia Beth Livesay is turning 3 Monday ~ we'll celebrate her fabulously unique personality and party with her on Sunday after church. She sat on my lap for an hour looking at fun cakes and kept saying "that my cake" to every cake photo. I went to order one she liked today only to learn I waited too long. They didn't want my order. Instead I will create something fabulous and creative using the skills I don't possess sometime in the middle of the night Saturday.
- We're finally reading books other than parenting books (not because we learned it all) ... finished A Grace Disguised and really liked it. Now we're reading: The Hole in our Gospel and When Helping Hurts - both are proving to be good/informative/thought-provoking reads.
- Have a great weekend.

SO jealous you are going to the Crowder Music Conf. AND the Together For Adoption Conf. too! A friend and I tried like crazy to make it to the adoption conference, but husbands had to work and couldn't find support staff for our kids. :( Hopefully next year. Have a great birthday with your youngest!

Tara,
Just wanted to let you know that I put a check in the mail to Tom today for 5k for the Gwo Cheve challenge. A lady from our church donated it and said we could designate what to apply it to so of course it needed to go for the hair/hospital!
Love Francis Chan, hope I am fortunate enough to see him someday!
Blessings,
I attended a conference for missionary wives where we were each encouraged to bring a book to trade, and my take home book was A Grace Disguised. What a blessing. I have recommended it many times since, as I so appreciated the author's perspective on not skipping over the grief but walking through it one painful step at a time with the Lord.
Hey, we're heading down to T4A tomorrow morning too... Hope we can catch up for a few minutes there? Our twins are coming with. We'll all be representing World Orphans publically for the first time - so it shouldn't be hard to find us!
Blessings,
Rebecca

For cool and totally doable cake ideas, go to familyfun.com. They have both cupcake and cake cake ideas. I know you'll make Lydie an AWESOME birthday cake! Praying for you!
I read When Helping Hurst a few months ago. LOVED it. I think, from past conversations we've had, that you'll appreciate it. Especially having lived on the "other side" so to speak and seeing not only the North American side of "helping" but also what it can lead to in the field.
So many comments to share, but I will do my best to keep it short. My youngest is spirited as well, except he is 4 1/2 ...someday you will be happy she is spirited (I keep telling myself that). Thanks so much for reminding me of Francis Chan with the clip last week, I forwarded it to a bunch of people. I can...not...believe...that you have not read the "The Hole..." before. Perhaps you mean you are re-reading it (I've read it twice), I read that book and thought of your family. I am reading "Radical" since you mentioned it and think of your family too. So tell me,what else do you recommend for reading?
I will check out "A grace disguised" too. Thanks again for sharing life with us.
Actually, I never have time to read in Haiti (I am too busy working on my Kreyol, learning how to better support the midwives, chasing my kids, and keeping donors up to date on the happenings) so I had not had an opportunity to read The Hole in our Gospel yet ... we hear about the popular books about a year after the USA has made them big-sellers, so I had heard of it a while back but just now taking the time to read it for the first time. :)
