- All the experts that write books about potty training are wrong. Candy is a good motivator for potty training. I waited a year to try it because I believed the experts about what a bad idea it is and I request that they send me $1,012.50 for the diapers I bought unnecessarily. As we approach their 3rd and 4th birthdays something had to give.
- Fact: Candy is way cheaper than diapers.
- Being in the bathroom eighteen times a day with the candy stash increases the caloric intake of the parents enough that there will be noticeable weight gain.
- Fixing brakes on a heavy Suburban is not an optional repair. Trust us.
- Getting a "free" carwash after a $700 truck-repair is not really getting it free. They're lying to you.
- People really love matching offers - proving that they give out of their goodness AND out of wanting more bang for their buck. {$1,000 given and $1,000 matched and 66% of goal. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!}
We are doing a study on the link between candy consumption and childhood obesity. We'll share our results soon. ;)

You crack me up! :))

I wonder if you could use candy to motivate people to donate to the hospital? ;)
Seriously... M&M's get all the credit for Isaiah being potty trained. We also gained weight but at least we don't have to change another diaper!
We did the candy thing for potty training too--worked good and everyone is none the worse for wear. For the "parents dipping into the stash", you could try getting a type of candy that the kids like but you don't. I give my students Jolly Ranchers (instead of yummy gummy bears) for this very reason. Good luck!
Oh yea! Candy is definitely the best potty training tool. Just ask all 10 of my bio. kids. They all got trained with candy ... and none of them have the slightest issue with weight. So, don't fret the obesity thing.
But ... come to think of it ... Mama trained 10 of them, and Mama is the one with the weight issue. Probably should use a type of candy that Mama doesn't like.

So...who is doing What? :) G & G
sooooo... the girls will be fully potty-trained by November, right?? :)
I've been reading your blog for a little while now...and loving it! I love how real you are and how strong your hearts are for Haiti.
I just started my own blog and actually linked back to you in my first post! Hope you don't mind...

Livesays:
Lydie is potty-training.
Phoebe is potty-training.
They are neck in neck in the competition and neither are all that accurate yet. We're running at about 60% success during day hours.
Troy Tara Lydie and Phoebe are eating a lot of Starbursts.
The girls may be obese before they are potty trained but at this point that seems like a good risk to take.
Potty training will come . . . My one daughter was trained at 2. My first son at around 2.5 ish. My second son .. . . WELL! That was a WHOLE 'nother story! And pull-ups did NOT work with him. He cared less about pull-ups--they were just as convenient to "use" as diapers for him! Sticker charts were worthless. He only "did" candy till he got enough to satisfy his sweet tooth, and then it was worthless. But when I finally bit the bullet and put him into cloth underwear and just dealt with the challenges . . . then suddenly he was potty-trained in short order--and he was well on the road towards (ahem) age 5.
So have faith . . . potty-training WILL come--eventually.
We couldn't get over the poop on the potty hurdle so we bribed Liv with "special panties". A pair that were not like the others that taunted her from the back of the bathroom door. After three successful poops they were all hers, and it took 3 days. I sometimes think the "experts" don't have kids.
#1) Funny stuff, and I agree, I am 40 years old and HIGHLY motivated by chocolate still.
#2) candy and a new toothbrush, ALSO cheaper than diapers!
3#) WHO CARES? The Bible says we are going to have a new body right?? (I want to look like Nicole C. Mullen, can you put in request??)
#4) Safety comes first, even if it's not in the budget.
#5) Seriously!
#6) Love this! and, I hope there is a video of John's haircut!
candy works. I liked potty training in less then a day. it takes longer then a day but many of their ideas are good.
I do daycare and have potty-trained 20 plus kiddos. all at about age 2... all in a one week timeframe. one m&m for pee and 2 for a poop. serious cheering and high fives are very important. we use the term "you are getting on the potty train. whoo whoo!" gets them excited. i start with a timer every 15(30, then 45 after 3 consecutive successes) min and they play on the floor near the bathroom and gradually as successes start happening get to play further in the house. with a regression we go back to the bathroom for playing. most are done in TWO days. AND i am NOT a fan of m&ms LOL!
Phoebe's eyes look great, by the way! How was the surgery?
My mother was old-school--if you could walk around with a bottle, it was time for a cup. Immediately. When you hit 22 months, the diapers came off and the undies went on--nuff said.
As for me and mine, 30 months was the limit. At two and a half, you drank a fifth (of watered-down Gatorade), then went to the potty every 10 minutes, ready or not. In one week, voila! (Of course, using my "Mrs. Potato Head" angry eyes and folded arms helped to further the process--heh heh.
i hope the surgery gone well..
amazing story. It's sad because some of us have to suffer like that.
