Pastor Rony

We have shared on numerous occasions about Pastor Rony.

He continues to be such an encouragement to us. He told Troy "you have a good heart." Troy practically went into a puddle having a man who lives in these circumstances and works so hard say anything nice at all, about him.

Today Rony took it upon himself to go to the hospital and visit the lady with the horrible infection due to a miscarriage. Knowing him, and having watched him long enough; he'll do whatever he can to help by praying, visiting, and contributing financially. Rony is planning to ask many people from church to join him & visit her on Sunday. He is constantly looking out for who needs encouragement, prayer and help...all the while it would appear that he could use some help and encouragement & a whole lot of cash himself. The photo has been posted before but it is the yard of Rony's house. The first time I posted it I had not been here long enough to know who lived there.

Every once in a while you meet someone whose attitude and approach to life inspire you. He is one of those guys for us.

Since we are totally honest when we share our thoughts on living and working here, we can share that there are not many people here that you could trust your children or your money with. The poverty & their choices as a result of that poverty, has created sin in their lives that leave us no choice, but to be skeptical and somewhat cautious when we are working with them.

You get the sense that whatever you will give them, they will take ... whether they need it or not. It might sound horrible to you ... but it is honest. We hope (and pray) that in some small way, with one here, and another there; we can teach and instill values that create lasting relationships of mutual trust, but it remains to be seen if this hope will be realized.

I would leave my kids with Rony if I needed to. We trust him that much. His wife has been feeling sick the last few days. Some of the guys on the team and Troy and Britt and Paige and I got a chance to go into Rony's home and pray for his wife. We hope that maybe you could pray for Madame Rony and the entire family too. They mean the world to us already and they mean even more to this villge so they could use all the prayers that are available.

Viktor Frankl: "We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

"Nothing that you have not given away will ever be really yours." C. S. Lewis
