Our phone rang in Haiti today. On the line were friends from Minnesota. They want to make the last three weeks count - and they hope it will be big.
$4,500 is the amount they WANT to match. For every dollar that comes in between tonight and October 3rd at midnight, up to that amount, it will be matched and become two dollars.
The first $300 just came in. $4200 left on the table to pick up by October 3.
I know that the chip in meter has gotten very confusing - with the mail donations and all the matches that are not showing on the meter, it is hard to tell what has come in and what the goal is - we will add an update to the bottom of each blog post with the total amount raised toward this final match offer. Ready, set, go ... spread the word please.
Match Update:
$300 of $4500 received

OK, so another $9000 for Medika Mamba is possible?! That's another 90 precious lives saved!! WOW.
This Friday will be payday. I'll dig deep! :D
Thank you for giving us a chance to be a (small) part of what God is doing in Haiti. Blessings from Iowa---and a hope for a wonderful 26.2!

I posted a blurb and a link on my Facebook. Keep up the amazing work!! :)
Radical!
I've had a feeling all along the total number will be 50,000!! I'd say this will bring it darn close if not cascading over.

I remember your family from Joy Free Church in Rogers. When you left for Haiti I didn't realize you planned to remain in Haiti and make that your home, I thought it was a mission trip for a short time. What a wonderful and exciting work you are doing. God bless you in all you do there and I pray for you to continue to improve in health.

I've been thinking about the number of kids who will be helped by the Medika Mamba marathon for a few days now and I can't help but marvel. 400-500 kids?! That's huge. 400-500 kids who have a chance to grow strong, to develop well now and hopefully be ready for an opportunity to learn and to follow their dreams later on -- that's enough to change a generation, to change the make-up of Haiti itself. The kids who are given a chance today really may be the leaders of Haiti tomorrow. It will take many of us pitching in alongside them further down the road, too -- but what an amazing start. You're running for a generation, Tara!
(No pressure, by the way! Just awe and hope.)
Just an addendum to clarify -- I'm not saying it's not the Haitian people who need to change, but rather the difficult circumstances. And a new crop of kids who are healthy and ready to lead can go a long way!
Hi Michelle-
We planned to stay 12 to 18 months and we came with five kids and now have seven plus some stragglers.
Uh ... I guess our plan was flawed - because we're still here. Got rid of our MN house since that time too.
I am not able to place you but with only a first name I figure you'll understand. I also think calling New Joy "Joy Free" is very funny. I prefer a church with some joy. ;)
