CNN "Rescued" May 8th @ 8pm Eastern
This is a special CNN documentary that Soledad O'Brien produced about orphans in Haiti post earthquake.
The Haitian kids featured are kids that friends of ours, Bill and Susette Manassero, work with in Port au Prince. The Manasseros are sheltering children in crisis and are helping to give these children a new lease on life. They work to restore children and walk with them as they heal. They do this in order to focus on helping the kids into adulthood and to foster a desire in them to love and give back to their country.
We hope you'll get a chance to check it out Saturday night at 8pm Eastern.
Part of the reason for my previous post is to help frame the numbers. We want to point out that raising orphaned children in Haiti (or anywhere) is totally admirable and when done well it is an absolutely beautiful thing. We wish there were 1000 more safe and loving places like the one the Bill and Sue are operating. We support a well run program helping kids stay in their own culture.
Having said that, the handful of organizations that help a small number of orphaned children find families to love, nurture, and raise them abroad through the miracle of adoption are doing equally important work.
The orphan problem is so large that more than one solution is necessary and can be aptly applied.
We pray the local church and the church of the world will respond to the growing orphan crisis in Haiti in multiple compassionate, creative, respectful and holistic ways.
If you get a chance to watch the documentary, we'd enjoy hearing your feedback.

We're (our family) is willing to come and help orphans in Haiti but it seems hard to plug in anywhere (mission organization). It seems that missionaries in Haiti, especially to the orphans, just decide to go and establish themselves through persistence & time? What are your ideas to the orphan crisis in Haiti especially now that the adoption process is even more complicated? I'm really curious to know as our hearts are so steered in the direction of the fatherless. Thanks.
Hey Jason -
Are you talking about moving full time? Most of the people we know doing orphan care type ministry in Haiti did chart their own path ... but based on what it is you're ready to do we might be able to give you some ideas. Write us at tl7inhaiti@yahoo.com
www.worldorphans.org is a way to support the local church as they support the orphans in their communities
And the chip-in meter just keeps rolling along. Seems like the Heartline meter can't keep up. Congratulations Paige! Terri Urban
Thanks for your input on adoption and orphanages. We value your experience and insight. Our church is starting an orphanage in Jeremie by the end of the year (rough date). Our family is committed to the first year, at least. Please pray for this great work. We know the need is great.
I am a new member of the Christian Alliance for Orphans. We had an Orphan Summit last week in MN and it was awesome! The young woman who filmed this CNN special was there and she showed us a lot of it - fantastic! She's a believer and God keeps putting her in places to film stories.
Anyways, we at The Moody Church in Chicago are starting an orphan care and adoption support ministry. One of the seminars I went to at the Summit was really good. Here's the site http://hopefororphans.org

Check out this video from the Legatum Institute promoting their EACH Campaign. It seems to be in line with what you have been saying for a long time and so articulately. Though I am confused by the disparity between the UN's statement in 1989 and what UNICEF is doing. Thanks again for keeping these things in front of us.
We are in Australia. Is there a way for us to view the full version of Rescued?
Thanks
Hi David-
Troy and I don't have CNN and have a friend taking care of taping it (or whatever we call it these days) for us. I know most everything ends up on line ... so I would think the entire one hour show will be available on line at some point.
Troy said I cannot say G'day Mate. So I won't.
When I saw that this special was going to be on CNN I wondered what your take would be on it. Thanks for posting about it. I've learned over the years (and even more so thanks to your blog and Haiti) that the message the media gives about a stutation and the reality on the ground are very often two very different things.
Lori in PEI (that's another small island in the Atlantic, only we get snow)
Me and my daughter and my grandbaby get to go to bed everynight in safe, warm and loving surroundings. I wish I could help in haite and give them the same.
I vow to help with whatever means are available to me. Ive never been a believer in religion or god, and seeing this has made me question even more, where the heck is god. I cant answer this but thank God for the believers we do have who are there, helping, loving, feeding and trying to help.
You are all the best. Please dont ever leave the the children.
From now on I will send my donations to haite.
Every week.
