Troy was asking Noah would he like to be rewarded for his awesome first days of "school" (it is technically tutoring) with ice cream at the store to bring home and share with all of us, OR, would he like to go to Dairy Queen?
There was a thoughtful look on Noah's face and he said:
"WHAT (long pause) is Dairy Queen?" And so, this six year old learned all about a great American summer tradition - and will no longer be satisfied with a simple half-gallon of vanilla.
Prior to coming here he called ice cream "that weird cold stuff" because we had it so infrequently that he could never recall that terribly nonsensical and difficult name - ice cream.
They all marvel at regular things like: TV programming, escalators, water fountains, smooth roads, an abundance of public restrooms, giant grocery stores, parks, water parks, amusement parks, zoos, recreation, wide open spaces, and so.many.places.to.eat.

Think American television has no affect on your children?
Clearly not true.
Thanks Dancing with the Stars. :)

Phoebe sleeps through anything.
I love that all these things are new to your kids. They've seen the REAL world. If only I could spend a little time in Haiti. I think everyone needs to know life in Haiti (or somewhere like it) to truly appreciate all they have.
LOVE the video! It cracks me up that Phoebe's just sleeping away!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY Tara! I pray it's blessed.

I love it! Too cute! I love seeing Phoebe sleeping through it!
I absolutely LOVE that they're listening to ABBA! It's the only stuff my boys will dance to with me. :)
Oh good grief! I missed the sleeping child on the floor on the first run through!! *Love* the dancing and the smiles!
I missed the sleeping Phoebe too the first time through! I was so mesmerized by the two great dancers! That is the cutest thing I have seen all day. Love it!
What a great video! They are better than some stars on Dancing with the Stars!
That is absolutely one of the most awesome things I've seen in a while. I agree - totally missed Phoebe the first time through it!! :-) What hilarious kids!
Completely awesome.
Ha! And they never stepped on the sleeping sister! AWESOME!!!! (cuz in my house, the show would have ended with a crash landing and a drowsy crying kid!)
Last month while in Bulgaria with newly adopted Kullen, who spent his first 7 years in an institution, I got the pleasure of watching him experience a refrigerator for the first time. Food, at your whim, and COLD. Oh, and above THAT is the FREEZER which is even COLDER! He spent hours with the fridge, taking stuff in and out, impressed with is ability to choose anything in there!
That was by far the sweetest video...pure Joy! They have motivated me to be more carefree this weekend!
Debra
loved when isaac dipped hope. very fred and ginger.
That is precious.
Brought a smile to my face. And yes I did see the sleeping child. Wondered if that was what I thought it was. Adorable.
So cute! We love dancing at our house too :)
Made me smile too. Loved seeing a comment from you on my blog. I check in here often, pray for your family and always leave with something more than I had before. You have a stunning family. God bless and hope to see you running in Haiti again soon. :)
Wow, your daughter has some talent! What a joy to watch your children!

That was pure awesomeness!!! And Phoebe sleeping was the icing on the cake! LOL! I kept waiting for them to do their marvelous moves on top of her, but they're mighty talented those two!!! :D
They are so cute! I can't believe Phoebe is sleeping through this.
our sweet edward told me the other day how he was excited about going to America because there we can drink bottles and bottles of water and never think twice about them running out of bottled water! I laughed and said that in most places in America you don't HAVE to drink bottled water but a lot of people chose to. he wrinkled up his cute nose and thought for a minute and asked "if you don't drink bottled water in America - where does it come from? Where can you get water?" I chuckled and said "It comes from the SINK!" To him it was a great shift in the reality of his world - a great schism of the universe! He couldn't fathom drinking tap water and not becoming violently ill!
LOVE experiencing our children grasping to understand the typical American "normal".
Love, love, love the knee move!
I loved it! This makes all the hard work worthwhile. It made my day - thanks.
So cute! Do phoebe and Lydia still mostly speak creole now they have been in America for an extended period?
Those two have talent! So fun to watch!
Ha ha, we can totally relate to this post. It made me laugh. On our first furlough, our kids spent a large portion of our layover in Ft. Lauderdale occupied by the water fountain! :) They had never seen one before and were fascinated that you could actually drink water out of it without boiling or filtering it first! :)
that was a pretty good dip...he didn't drop her :) (i've been dropped :P)
they're amazing dancers!!!!
and i missed phobe the first time also :)
