green that is not green

For several years we've lived where there is not money or a marketplace in which to promote "green" living.  That is not to say that people don't reuse and recycle in Haiti  - they do.  It is just to say that there are not gazillions of dollars being spent to promote green living. It is not hip there.  It is not cool there.  It is not marketed to that population.  That population is trying to survive.

Being in the marketing-mecca of the universe after being in Haiti makes all marketing stand out to us, but especially the ridiculous campaigns. It is highly entertaining, totally laughable, and maybe a little annoying to step back and realize the amount of marketing and money that goes into these silly campaigns that are actually not preserving the earth in any way - shape - or form.

Case in point - This sticker sign -
In a shower at a hotel in Orange, CA :

This shower head:

That's right - the shower you take with only one shower-head suddenly restores the worldAwesome.

Also, false.

I've been taking a shower with only one shower-head for years. And here I thought I wasn't doing enough. Patting myself on the back.

Oh, that is comical. And think of all the paper consumed to express such a ridiculous thought.

Hilarious!

And if you would like to be an evil non-earth loving showerer, just flip this little switch. Then we'll give you the same amount of water through two shower heads instead of one, but we'll make you feel really bad about it.

Muah ha ha ha!

Unbelievable stupidity...that's what Dad had to say about this. :) Wonder who got paid a 'lot' of money to come up with that idea? :(

I totally agree.

Just wondering the status of the "Paige houses." So far, we've gotten to see great photos of Marjorie's house. Are there more that have been built? Are they in process? As much as I love the adoption talk (and I do love it, my daughter is adopted internationally) I would really love to hear more about Haiti. Heartline hasn't had anything new on their blog since July 2.

Lately, watching the news feels like the movie Groundhog Day to me. The news says "There's still a bazillion barrels of oil spilling into the Gulf. And nothing is happening about rebuilding Haiti. Everything is still exactly like it was a week or two after the earthquake." To those of us who haven't been there, it seems unbelievable and inexcusable. With all the money donated, why are there not bulldozers clearing rubble? It boggles the mind. So discouraging.

So please tell us and show us that our money HAS DONE something to house people in Haiti. Help us to see that lighting a candle in the darkness is accomplishing something, in Jesus' name. I really believe in small faith based ministries. I am so proud of Paige and I want to hear all about the 1/2 Marathon houses.

Also, any skydiving in your future Troy and Tara?

Ten houses went to Petit Goave, very near the epicenter of the EQ and totally decimated. A trusted friend and ministry partner, Nate Yonker is overseeing the construction of these ten homes as well as determining which families will be getting them. He will get us photos to post. I know two of them went up this weekend. If you search for him on Twitter - his name is Telltheworld5 (Brenda Yonker) -- they tweeted a bunch of photos of house construction this weekend.

Ten houses are going to Cazale where friends and long-time missionaries to Haiti, the Zachary family, will oversee the building there. They have not been delivered or started as of now, the Zacharys will keep us posted.

Heartline will be building 6 houses in Leogane under the supervision of longtime Livesay/WWV friend and employee, "Tipap". He can be seen working on a house this weekend at this link:

There were six lots purchased by Heartline and six houses will go on those lots for families that Heartline will choose. ( Five of the Six of those families/house recipients have been chosen as of this date.)

Little Emmanuel's mom will get one in her home town.

Lovely (a man) and his family will get one to put on his lot.

Marjorie got one.

That is where 35 of the 42 houses Paige ran for will go or have gone.

The other 7 are still TBD.

I don't think John has has time to sit or blog - so much going on between the different programs/ministries that I would guess he is having trouble keeping all the balls in the air.

The major hang=ups in clearing rubble and rebuilding swiftly in Haiti will always have to do with government inability or unwillingness to act ... and the political game the powerful/large NGO's and the Governments play.

As a small faith-based NGO that has been on the ground for more than 20 years we can do things without entering into those game ... but things move at incredibly slow speed in the developing world and we're unfortunately not able to avoid being affected by the speed of culture/government sometimes too. John is visiting land with people and determining if they are good candidates for the homes.

Troy will likely spend a longer chunk of time at home in August/September and by then we should know where all 42 houses are going and many, many of them will be built and occupied.

Hope that addresses the concerns, we can also be reached at tl7inhaiti@yahoo.com if I missed anything.
