Going through the year in photos and stories reminded us of how faithful God is. To see it all in black and white and look back on the ways He sustained and provided is both beautiful and humbling. 2011 was one of the best years we've ever had in Haiti. We're so grateful for the ways God has allowed us to grow and for so much evidence of His love and mercy at work.
Multiple stories and people touched our lives, challenged us, changed us this year.
What story or person moved you in some way? We'd love to know.
With gratitude to God for the year that was and best wishes for a Happy New Year!

Wowza. What a year! And what an honor to follow along on your journey. Thanks for being/sharing Jesus.
What story moved me? Oh so many. Have to say though that Anonymous Commenter takes the cake.
Happy, Happy 2012 to all of you!
So much heartache, so much hope! Praise God for the hope we have in Jesus. Our labor is not in vain.
Love reading about your lives. Through the funnies, the frustrations, and the heartaches, it is encouraging to see the Lord work and care for His people in Haiti. For me, Moses was the most moving. The way y'all took him in and the way the Lord provided a forever family for him. Such a beautiful story.
Thankful for how y'all are serving and sharing your lives with us.
derry, new hampshire moved me. and by "me," i mean, "my bowels."
An amazing year, I'm flabbergasted. Prayiing for you all this morning, Tara, truly. Got your back here in Canada for the year ahead. May God continue to do infinitely more than we ask or think. xo Sarah

Thanks for reading and encouraging!
Keight ... your bowels have my back. I think that is good for me and maybe bad for you. 2012 we meet!
Sarah - thank you so much, love your writing!
i discovered this blog in june, right as the stuff seemed to be hitting the fan for you guys. i loved reading due to the honesty, doubt, faith, and grace evidenced in your writing. plus, a killer sense of humor doesn't hurt.
i think what i find most encouraging is your kids. as someone with a toddler getting ready to move overseas (plus we want to adopt), it is pretty cool to see such awesome examples of (little) kingdom people.
You all have had quite a year! I remember reading about most of that the first time around. It seems like yesterday. Tempus Fugit! Always wanted to use that term legit-like. (and legit, too)
OK. Bye.
Dear Livesays, I just read your 2011 posts and am moved to write! Not too long ago, when we kept running into Santa's asking kids what they wanted for Christmas, instead of just bitching about it, I asked myself what I want for Christmas. The first thing I came up with is for Haitian women to be keeping their babies. The audacious and long-standing good work of Heartline is obviously moving towards this goal. I am loving the photos of the women (fresh from the miracle of birth) and their new babies. Bondye beni nou!!!!
Reading your blog, i can hardly stay in my chair yearning for the feeling of Haiti, the desire to live on the front lines of injustice, exploitation, joy, hospitality, grace, and the rugged physical beauty of Haiti.
Finally, we've watched your Christmas 2011 video again and again. It's great! We are awed by Hope's gorgeous voice! Gabriela is still singing "Glory to God" from the 2009 edition.
Blessings to you all! Esther (Gabriela, Niko, Matt)
Loved the re-cap and the stats about the Heartline ladies. Although it's true that names and people are more important than stats..... some might be interested to compare the Heartline stats with the regular stats of Haiti.
I don't know them exactly of course....and maybe no one knows how many babies/mothers die at home / on the side of the road / outside the gates of the hospital that they can't get into..... but I know the numbers are far less impressive than those of Heartline.
Thank you for LIVING in Haiti
and PRAISE GOD for His goodness and faithfulness and His mercies that are new every morning!!
Happy New Year Livesay Lards, McHoul Hippies and Hendrick ?? (they need a nickname!)
Love you all!
T&T, Merry Christmas to you, too!
Love reading and following your lives, it's very encouraging to us here. Thanks for the laughs, too, you are witty and clever and I love that you remind me that missionaries can be funny and it's OKAY, people. Glad you and your MKs had the opportunity to get away from it all and relax together recently.
Keep blogging!
Many blessings in 2012!!
Chris
I found your ministry right after the earthquake, and when I think of those days, the great coming together of so many under your roof to bring "battlefield" medical care to the horrifically wounded, my heart still lifts with joy and awe. Look where you are now. I need no further evidence of God's loving work among humanity. Happy new year, Tara!
After reading the 'anonymous comment post' for the first time, felt the need to say that...
I have been following your blog on and off since the earthquake because it is the most uplifting and honest document of Christian mission I have come across.
We are called to be counter-cultural,surely (do not conform to the pattern of this world...) so good on any ageing hippies out there.
I wish I'd had the courage when I was younger to uproot my children and take them off to experience another culture - what an enriching experience.
Not a bad synopsis for an aging unclean hippie. (I'm sorry...I simply had to!) Looking forward to your 2012 adventures! Onward fabulous hippies, onward!
I have been most moved by your family. Looking back on 2011, I remember loosing a one-of-a-kind student in January, Hope. It has been so great to keep track of how she is doing and what a wonderful blessing she is to the world around her.
Thanks for sharing her with Texas for a while!
Happy 2012!
Mrs. Thiering
I loved reading Moses' journey and the ways God was evident in the lives of everyone around him. And, as always, I'm continually blessed by the way you share your family's struggles and learning. Blessings to all of you in 2012.
Mrs. Thiering! Hope loved reading your note. We didn't know you read this here blog ... we're thrilled to hear from you!
