One of the most beautiful things I have read post earth-quake ...
Today if you have time to read something true - you should read this.
"I want you to know that, before the earthquake, things in Haiti were normal. Outside Haiti, people only hear the worst -- tales that are cherry-picked, tales that are exaggerated, tales that are lies. I want you to understand that there was poverty and oppression and injustice in Port-au-Prince, but there was also banality."

I just read this. Agree...it was beautifully written. Makes me so sad about the lady in the flower dress that had died and no one knows her name or her story. Pray that writers like her and also like you will keep writing and telling the true stories of Haitians.
Blessings,
Karen
thanks for this. i read it last night when you linked to it, and i reposted it. this woman voice rings true. reminds me of you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your stories, experiences and your hearts. I was led to your site by a friend a while back and it has been such a blessing to read your stories and know how to pray.
I heard some of this writer's story on NPR one day and am so glad to read more. Thank you for keeping the stories of Haiti and God's real, beloved people in front of us every day. Thank you.
So very sad & beautiful. These stories continue to stir many emotions in me. Thank you for keeping my eyes open. Get so wrapped up in my own "suffering" that have to kick my own butt when I think of what you & your family and the Haitian people are going through. Also makes me want to be a better women.
Prayers always,
Peggy
Thank you for posting this link and for sharing your experiences. Pre-earthquake Haiti was not peaches and cream, but it was not absolute misery and desperation either. There are plenty of Haitians who return to Haiti after living in the US for years and it is not because they are being deported. Maybe the story will finally get out that Haitians are not a completely miserable lot.
Best,
Luci
Thank your or sharing that, Tara.
Wondering today - what is the difference between your heart breaking for someone and "pitying" them? I'm reading an Amy Carmichael bio and she wouldn't accept workers who said they were motivated out of deep pity or even just a "desire to help". She only wanted workers who willed one thing - to do God's work. Is there a place for pity or does it betray some kind of idea that we are sorry but shrug our shoulders?
Just thinking out loud, I guess.
Jacci
As someone who knew nothing about pre-quake Haiti, I appreciate it: read it and loved it.
thank you so much! i am passing it along!
I was directed to this blog right after the earthquake and have been addicted to it ever since.
Your story is so REAL and that is so REFRESHING. Don't let anyone tell you that you shouldn't grieve or be angry or whatever. I think one of the biggest weaknesses of the American church (and maybe others?) is that we aren't real with each other. If everyone shared as openly as you have, there would be a lot less people judging because we would see that everyone hurts and struggles and cries and yells and doubts.
Thank you so much for your honesty, for the work you have done (and will do again!!) in Haiti both before and after the earthquake, and for showing those of us who are ignorant that people in Haiti blame their farts on the cat. They are real and normal and this is devastating to them. I needed to hear that.
You rock and I have been and will continue to pray for you and your precious family. I love hearing things from your heart--it rings true.
Thanks and be encouraged.

Thank you for posting that link - that was another piece of the puzzle that to me is Haiti...

Think I had read this before...really good! Hope this writer will share more of her insights of the spirited people of Haiti.
Beautiful! I am sure that brought healing to your soul. God Bless you, I do not know you but you and your family have become dear to our hearts because you are so open with yours.
