The other day I was killing some time and noticed there was a live White House press conference available on-line. I clicked to be connected.
I was instantly confused, the voice was Tony Snow. I wrote my dad and asked what the heck the deal was, last I knew Tony Snow worked at FOX News. Dad informed me that life in the USA is still happening, even without me. He said Tony Snow became the President's press secretary about 90 days ago.
It got me thinking about all the stuff I now know nothing about. Then I got to feeling guilty for being ignorant about it all.
Right now, I am going to stab my parents through the heart with a pencil when I say, we did not get around to doing our absentee ballots for tomorrow's election.
Send an ambulance to 131 Powell Circle West immediately.
It is not that I don't care about politics anymore, it is just that I don't care nearly as much as I did before I moved here. Just to add insult to my dads injury, twisting the pencil in his pseudo wound, I will also say that I have less faith in anything marvelous coming from government or politics. I am a conservative, but a disinterested one at best.
Did Haiti do that to me? I have no idea. It just doesn't seem so important right now.
Dad, Mom, do you still like me? love?
Outside of real news that we've missed, there is a truck-load of pop culture that is just passing us by. Funny thing, our lives are complete without all of this information.
Apparently there was a World Series recently and the Yankees were not even in it. But who was?
My sister tells me that Tom Weirdo Cruise had a baby and Angelina is jealous of Brad doing a movie with Gwyneth. Oh, and Reese Witherspoon is leaving her husband, and there is a scandal with some evangelist who did a wrong thing got caught, lied, then told the truth.
It is amazing to me how easy it is to check out. Not that I really need to know Hollywood news or sports ---- but to not know a World Series took place or who the Press secretary of my own country is; that is just weird for this former news junkie.
You might wonder why I am not reading news on the internet. This information is out there and available to me, right!?!?! Yes, but because my news (World, Metro and the very local little paper) came from Newspapers and TV, and I am a person of habit, I have never gotten into a groove of checking news on-line. Plus, my internet time is focused on blogging, photographs and e-mail correspondence. If there is something I need to know, I expect you guys to fill me in.
Hey, did you hear Katie Couric left the Today show? Crazy.
