Wow

I'm sure we've said it before, but I can't help saying it again:

"God doesn't send the equipped, he equips the sent."

That has never been more true than today. The biggest news is that we have power again. We're working off of a generator I rented from "Haitian Tractor" in Port today. After a conversation with the shop manager who is trying to fix our other generator, I was left with no confidence that we'll see that one again in the next week. Reviewing the cost of gasoline to keep our backups running versus the rental price for one that can charge our batteries and give us a more permanent and workable solution, the choice was easy. Bringing a 1000 pound generator home was not easy, however. Neither was hooking it up with no manual, no instructions, and no qualified electricians on hand. But, praise the Lord, I somehow managed to get it all working. We now have water, electricity, refrigeration, fans, and all the comforts of home. I'm still in shock that we figured it out, and I can't help but smile at the novelty of turning on a light with a switch again. I'll have to talk to someone who knows a lot more about electricity than I do to figure out exactly how it is that what I did worked.

Now the feeding program and our normal activities can continue without interruption.

I followed a water truck down the street in Port Au Prince today. They look like a gas tanker in the States, only they carry “clean” drinking water all around the city to homes and businesses. They probably are old gas or oil tankers, carrying around the "better" water. That's a scary thought. They're usually rusted out and patched together with scrap metal. The back of this truck had a huge piece of sheet metal welded on to hold the water in. It was caulked with silicone at all the places the weld wasn’t complete or had broken apart. It looked like a vertical sprinkler going down the road. Water was spraying everywhere. He must have just filled up, and I hope he didn’t have far to go. I wish I had jumped out and taken a shower. I could really use one.

I worked the "system" today and negotiated a better price for the new batteries we need as well. Using a friend/contact in Port, we managed to beat the normal "blan" price and save $20 US per battery.

Kaden Hoppa is still in the hospital in Port, so please continue to pray for him. The doctors are saying it's a bacterial infection in his intestines. Please pray for Tara, too, it sounds like she has Malaria now as well. Fortunately she's home with family, and can hopefully get some rest - stay cool - and get the medical treatment she needs.

I'm going to go to turn on a fan, smile, and go to bed now...I'll be continuing to sing a song in my head that goes like this:
