More Cool Stories

I wish we had more time to make note of every single story that we've been blessed to watch unfold. I am basically picking one in twenty to share ... and that is just us and our one clinic. I'd have to imagine there are a half a million stories to be told.

A couple days ago a little guy came in from Simone Pele. They picked him up and he seemed disoriented and no parent or guardian could be located. He needed treatment for wounds from the earthquake so they took the risk and brought him in without a guardian.

His wounds were treated and he went to recovery. In recovery he started seizing. He ended up seizing about twice a day for the next two days. We still had no idea if he had living parents or what his story was. The Docs speculated that he is a kid that has always had seizures.

There are two amazing Paramedics from New York City working with us. We found them by accident when Scott Salvant, a super-cool guy we know, found them in the D.R. as they were trying to get here to work. Their names are Christophe and Rhona and they are truly awesome at what they do. They have been riding the truck in and out of the slums picking up patients and they begin to work on them in the truck before they ever get to the clinic. Christophe was very troubled about our little mystery orphan boy. He took personal responsibility and brought him back into Simone Pele today and walked around asking everyone if they knew him.

It turns out he comes from an intact family. His mother and father had been looking for him since the earthquake. He is autistic and had run away during the earthquake.

He is now at home, reunited with his family and doing well.

That's how God rolls.

Try to write more tonight.

been reading your blog faithfully since the quake. We have mutual friends, but don't know each other yet. My mentors in ministry are friends with the McCouls. Just want you to know you are heard and prayed for every day. Tara...I pray for you each day when I run!

I linked to your blog from Heather Owen's blog (Northwest Haiti Christian Mission) and come here a couple times a day to get some news--I know you are living the real story daily. Today's story of reuniting the parents with their little boy blessed me so much. I am an occupational therapist who works with children with autism and can only imagine how frightened he was by the earthquake and then terrified by all the new people, sights and sounds while he was separated from his parents. When you see Christophe, tell him "thank you" for taking the extra effort to look for the family. And thank you to all of you at Heartline Ministries and World Wide Village--you are extraordinary to do the work you do and post these amazing stories when you could be sleeping or resting. When the severe crises are handled and the time for rehabilitation comes, I hope to come back to my beloved Haiti for a time. I do worry though about the current needs for splinting, positioning and ranging with so many amputations and head injuries. Do you have any OTs or PTs there now?

Tara and Troy...

I have to tell you I LOVE this story. My nephew is autistic and I cannot imagine the heartache we would have felt if something like this had happened to him. Thank you to the man who worked so hard to find his parents.

I found your blog from a young woman and told another young woman (an lpn) who is dying to come down and work with you. She is an amazing young lady and would be perfect...she is truly wanting to be God's hands and feet. I know she will be contacting you if she hasn't already.

God Bless YOU BOTH!!!

Kristine

Thank you! As a mom to an autistic child, I can understand how he would have been even more traumatised by the noise and upheaval that you all experienced. Thank God for you all ... and for Christophe for following his heart and hearing God. You guys rock!

Yes, Writing a book is a must! Not now, but someday when you get a chance to sit with your family and rest...and tell them amazing stories of seeing God work. With Troy's photography you're half way there now. Can you appoint someone to be historian as they fullfill other duties? Capture a story with a photo, a quick vidio blurb, or two sentances. You can fill the details in later. Having said that...I know you don't need anything else on your place now and we all SO appreciate every word you do make time to send out. We know you should be sleeping instead! Thank you, thank you, thank you for your sacrifice! We're praying for you all!

Tara,

Thank you for the stories. Wow!

Speaking of the little ones ... were you able to get Phoebe and Annie to the States, since they were both "in process" with their adoptions? Praying so.

Praying for you all through each and every day!!!
